Honey wine, better known to many English speakers as mead, is made by fermenting honey and water instead of grape juice. Evidence of fermented honey drinks reaches back roughly 9,000 years, to pottery found in China, and the drink turns up everywhere from Viking halls to the modern craft revival. The site follows a strict sourcing policy. Specifications such as alcohol content, ingredients and price come from producers' published information, and the date prices were checked is shown next to every price. Competition scores and medals are credited to the body that awarded them, with a link where one exists. Tasting notes are labeled as the producer's unless the editors say they are their own, and the site publishes no invented star ratings, tasting panels or customer reviews. When a producer claims to be the first or only one to do something, the site reports it as a claim.

BestHoneyWine.com is reader-supported. It earns commission through affiliate links, currently through a single relationship with the California honey wine producer Bee d'Vine via the Awin affiliate network, and says so on every page that carries a paid link.
